# The Differences Between Minor, Moderate, and Great Filial Piety

December 13, 2011

Being filial to one’s parents is an inherent and fundamental duty for all children. However, there are distinctions between minor, moderate, great, and even super levels of filial piety.

Minor Filial Piety: Attending to parents constantly, serving them meals, washing their feet, and carrying out their wishes with reverent care and respect whenever they express a need.

Moderate Filial Piety: Managing one’s own issues and life affairs in a way that prevents parents from worrying about you.

Great Filial Piety: Achieving success in one’s career and personal endeavors, bringing pride and joy to one’s parents through these accomplishments.

Super Filial Piety: Accumulating merits and then transferring part of these merits to one’s parents, enabling them to be freed from the suffering of reincarnation and to experience the eternal joys of life and existence.
